Foods for Ailments

Things I learned from watching Rachael Ray today:

If you have high cholesterol, eat lots of pears. They are loaded with soluble fiber which binds with the bad cholesterol in your intestines and helps you get rid of it.

If you have an upset stomach, eat basil. (Don't keep basil in the fridge. It doesn't like the cold). Basil has ugenol which helps stop the spasms of your intestines and helps reduce pain related to an upset stomach. This can also be found in cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Just be careful when taking it as a supplement vs from your diet because too much can cause liver damage.

If you have high blood pressure eat raisins. They will help lower blood pressure and improve cardiovascular maintenance. This is because they contain poly phenol.

If you suffer headaches, eat potatoes. They can boost your seratonin levels which help ease headaches. Roasted or baked. Not mashed potatoes.

Hemorrhoids... Figs. They have 4g of fiber which softens your stool and makes you more regular.
